Eligibility Criteria for the University of Otago Scholarships for international students
Applicants are expected to meet the following eligibility criteria for the University of Otago International New Zealand Scholarship
Applicants must be international students. Students admitted to the master’s program. The award is available for Master’s courses offered at the University. Students enrolled full-time in the Honors Program for the semester for which the scholarship is awarded. Candidates for professional doctorates, as well as Ph.D., are welcome to apply.
Candidates must be highly motivated, responsible, and able to work independently, in a structured manner, and with good interpersonal and communication skills. Applicants must hold an offer for a full-time program at the University of Otago, New Zealand.

Scholarship Worth
Doctor of Philosophy – NZ$30,696 stipend per annum plus a domestic tuition fees waiver for 36 months (excludes student services fee and insurance) Professional Doctorates (DClinDent, DMA, DBA, EDd) – NZ$30,696 stipend per annum plus a tuition fee waiver for up to 36 months capped at the domestic rate (excludes student services fee and insurance).
Application Process
The university offer different scholarships and for some, there is no formal application process. Students will be evaluated for a scholarship at the request of their program and beneficiaries will be informed of their scholarship in the Site Offer. The selection of scholarship recipients is at the discretion of the University of Otago.
Also, for other scholarships, applications are made online through the eVision portal after applying for admission to a programme. The application form will be available through an alert at one of the following times:
- when applying for admission (if the degree is by thesis only, or if the thesis will begin straight away) – you will receive an alert in your eVision portal after applying for admission to your programme, inviting you to apply for a scholarship; or,
- just before the thesis component is about to begin (usually at the start of the second year for a master’s degree by papers and thesis) – you will receive an alert in your eVision portal after enrolling in your thesis paper.
