The MSIF McDonald Fellowship is a 2-year grant that provides the selected participants around GBP 30,000 per year, to cover travel and living costs, and an additional contribution of GBP 2,000 per year to the host institution. The McDonald fellowship is designed to support early-career researchers focused on Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It specifically targets individuals from low- and middle-income countries.

The fellowship is open to Master’s students, PhD students, and medical doctors (MDs) currently working or studying in a low- or middle-income country (as defined by the World Bank). Holders of the Mcdonald Fellowship program will work in a research institution outside of their own country. It’s important to note that the McDonald Fellowship program is not affiliated with McDonald’s restaurants. More details about the fellowship are given below.

What is the McDonald Fellowship?

The McDonald Fellowship enables early-career multiple sclerosis researchers from low- and middle-income countries to work in a research institution outside their country.

During the visit, participants either gain expertise or carry out parts of joint research projects. The funds can also be used to support PhD programs.

Benefits

  • Two-year grant: Provides financial support for living and travel expenses, with an annual value of around GBP 30,000.
  • The Grant can cover travel to the host country and within the host country, visa-related, expenses, accommodation, taxes, subsistence costs, insurance, utility bills, computer, phone/internet costs, and attendance at awards-related meetings/workshops/conferences.
  • Institutional contribution: An additional GBP 2,000 per year is provided to the host institution.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be educated to post-graduate level (at least MSc, preferably PhD/MD) in an area relevant to multiple sclerosis.
  • Be citizens of a low- or middle-income country (all countries with a low, lower-middle, or upper-middle income as defined by the World Bank)
  • You are working or studying in a low- or middle-income country.
